KEVIN GAIESKY-IMPRESSIVE
Tuesday, 09 March 2010 15:56

KEVIN GAIESKY who in 2009 established himself as one of BC's best up and coming race walkers continues to impress many in the Race Walking and Track fraternity.

In 2009 Kevin had a Silver performance at the BC High School Championships; captured the Gold at the BC Youth Championships, and turned in another Silver Medal performance at the Legion National Championships in Quebec.

Recently Kevin took part in the GALLOPING GOOSE RACE WALK EVENT IN VICTORIA. It was his first time he officially Race Walked 10,000 meters (10K).  In recording a time of 53 minutes 55 seconds, he has qualified for the Can/Am (Canada and USA) race walking challenge in August 2010.

GREAT STUFF KEVIN AND CONGRATULATIONS.

NEW FEE STRUCTURE FOR 2010
Monday, 01 February 2010 13:45

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SEVERAL YEARS THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE IN CLUB FEES IN 2010.

While we have been able to carry on our program for a number of years without a fee increase to members, we have had to 'bite the bullet' for this coming year, and due to a number of circumstances a new cost structure has been put in place.

Some of the factors causing this are (a) the cost doing business like everything else has risen over the years.

                                                    (b) The Club has had a BC Gaming license for many years, and this is no longer guaranteed.

Annual Revenue from Gaming allowed us the liberty of providing a number of programs including

membership fees to remain relatively inexpensive for Club members.

                                                     (c) Government cuts in many other areas such as subsidized travel will no longer allow us to assist with

travel costs to out of town meets.

SILVER BRIGHTENS LEGION NATIONALS
Wednesday, 09 September 2009 11:38

Two Club athletes qualified for the BC Youth  Team to take part in the Legion Nationals in Sherbrook Quebec in mid-August, and two silver medals was the final result.

Kevin Gaiesky (16) qualified for the Provincial Team with a exciting victory at the Provincial qualifier meet.  In  his first year of eligibility, Kevin left no doubt he is a National Class Race Walker by capturing a Silver Medal at the National meet.

The diminutive athlete can Race Walk with the best his age in the country even though he was young in the two year age group.  This bodes well for Kevin in that his 17th year could very  well result in an even better performance in 2010.

Recently Kevin Race Walked the entire 8 mile (12.8 Km) course of the Labour Day Classic.  That distance will be a prelude to the 5 and 10,000 meter distances he will  begin Race Walking as he reaches the Junior (18/19) age group in 2011.

CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN YOU HAVE DONE OUR CLUB AND PROVINCE PROUD ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL.  WE ARE ALL TRULY THRILLED!

Although  not able to threepeat, (sic) Alyxandria Treasure our star high jumper was able to capture the silver medal in Youth Women's high jump this year.

Alyx had won the National Championship in both 2007 as a 15 year old with  a National record on 1.76 and a follow up victory as a Youth Athlete with a record Legion National jump of 1.81 in 2008.  She had previously set a higher National Age Class record on 1.82 in June of 2008 with a STUNNING first place performance at the BC High School Meet in June of that year.

Alyx has had some problems with a very aggravated left ankle this past year, which cut down on her performance, but a somewhat lack of focus as a relsult made it improbable that she would get that sought after 3rd successive Gold Medal.

Alyx however cannot be to upset with her Legion National Career, as she accumulated two Gold (HJ), two Silver (HJ/TJ) , one Bronze (relay) and two National Records in her three year attendance at this prestigious meet.  WOW!

FIVE CLUB ATHLETES AT THE BC JAMBOREE
Friday, 10 July 2009 11:00

Five Club athletes will begin competition today at the BC Track and Field Jamboree in Abbotsford.

Erin Wakabayashi (15) will compete in the girls 'triple jump' and 100 meters and she is a good prospect for a placing on the BC 15 year old team for the Legion Nationals, having already exceeded the 10.22 standard in Triple Jump with a leap of 10.76 at the Spruce Capital Meet.

Josh Hewitt (15) will also be looking for a BC berth in both the 400 and 800 meter events.

Kevin Gaiesky (16) is a good prospect to grab a BC berth with his season best 6:44.04 in the 1500 meter race Walk.  The Standard time to make the Team is 7:02. Kevin has taken the silver medal at the BC High School Meet in both 2008/09.

Shaun Cormier (17) will be competing in the Youth (16/17) 100 and 200 meters and Chris Dinsdale (Quesnel) is looking for fast times in both the 800 and 1500 runs in the Jr. Mens (18/19) events.

Alyx Treasure has already qualified for her 3rd., consecutive Legion Nationals by virtue of earlier meets and with a pardon from competing in the BC Trials as she is at a higher priority meet, namely the World Youth Event
